Bob from Captor Wildlife Services was referred to me by the DEC office in Cortland to remedy our skunk problem. I will admit that we were kind of desperate, so I agreed to have him come over without researching other companies first. He told me it would be $175 plus tax in order to just look at the situation and advise us on solutions. I thought that was expensive, but Bob told me that $175 could be used towards any solution we chose... I figured, how much could trapping possibly cost? Fine. He came by a day later and said that he would charge us $900 plus tax for trapping the skunks (a temporary solution) and around $3700 to secure the deck with wire mesh (20'x20') and prevent animals from living under there in the future. I was absolutely floored at the cost and am thoroughly convinced this guy is out to price gouge his customers. This guy did nothing besides look under the deck with a flashlight, take out a couple tools to poke in the ground and measure the deck, and suggest where exactly the skunks were probably living (NOT worth $175). We ended up hiring another company, who did NOT charge us to evaluate the situation and the total cost was less than $150 to trap all of the skunks. The same wire mesh solution from this company would have cost no more than $1000. I would advise everyone to stay far away from this company, and hire Animal Control Services of CNY instead. They are professional, diligent, and will keep setting traps until all of the critters have been captured. Bob should be ashamed of himself and his practices!
